# Authentication
Source: https://docs.concretehq.com/api-summary/authentication
Secure access to the Concrete API using API keys and authentication best practices
## Overview
The Concrete API uses API key-based authentication to secure access to your portfolio data. Each API key is associated with your workspace.
## Obtaining an API Key
Navigate to **Settings** → **API Keys** in your Concrete dashboard
Click **"Generate New API Key"**
Securely copy and store the API key
## API Key Structure
```
sk-ak-1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef
```
## Bearer Token Authentication
Concrete uses a bearer token authentication header for API requests:
```http theme={null}
GET /api/v1/me HTTP/1.1
Host: app.concretehq.com
Authorization: Bearer sk-ak-1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef
Content-Type: application/json
```

Automate data pipelines with the Concrete API
## Overview
The Concrete API provides programmatic access to view and create select data in Concrete. The API is primarily intended to faciliate data pipline automations.
### Base URL
```
https://app.concretehq.com/api/v1
```
## Primary Use Cases
**Portfolio Company Sync**: Continuously sync your fund's portfolio companies from external sources like your CRM, fund administration platform, or internal databases. Manage fund membership and portfolio status (`active`, `exited`, `dissolved`) over time.
**Meeting Logging**: Upload meeting transcripts, notes, and metadata from your transcription service or meeting platform to integrate with Concrete's portfolio intelligence.
**Notes**: Create, read, update, and delete notes attached to a company or a person — useful for piping in commentary from your CRM, IC memos, or other internal systems.
**Tracker Export**: Pull tracker values (ARR, headcount, runway, and any custom metrics) into your own database, BI tool, or LP reporting pipeline. Supports incremental sync so a nightly job only fetches what changed.
## Resources

# Concrete Relay
Source: https://docs.concretehq.com/apps-services/relay
Chat with Concrete from your phone over SMS
Concrete Relay is the SMS interface to your Concrete workspace. Text your portfolio questions, add notes after a founder call, and schedule recurring digests, all without opening the app.
Relay messages include citations linking back to the source email, file, or meeting inside Concrete.
***
## What You Can Do
**Ask Portfolio Questions On the Go**: Request the link to a company's latest pitch deck, pull a founder's phone number, or grab the most recent ARR and runway figures before walking into a meeting. Relay replies as a text with citations that open the underlying source in Concrete.
**Add Notes**: Send a quick observation after a meeting or call and Relay files it against the right company. Useful for capturing thoughts while they're fresh.
**Share Files**: Paste a screenshot, deck, or other file into the chat along with a note about which company it belongs to ("latest Acme AI board deck"), and Relay automatically files it to that company in your workspace.
**Schedule Routines**: Set up recurring updates that arrive on a cadence you choose. Common examples:
* A Monday morning portfolio digest summarizing the weekend's activity.
* A Friday recap of any ARR, runway, or intro requests received during the week.
* A daily heads-up on any company you're watching closely.
***
## Setup
Connect Relay during onboarding or anytime from **Settings** → **Messaging**.
1. **Add Your Mobile Number**: Enter your phone number. Concrete provisions a dedicated Concrete number for your workspace.
2. **Verify by Texting**: Send a message from your phone to the assigned Concrete number. Verification completes automatically.
3. **Save Concrete as a Contact**: Download the generated vCard to assign Concrete contact info to the Relay number.
Once verified, you can start texting immediately.
***
## Routines
Tell Relay what you want and when. Examples that work today:
* "Text me every Monday at 8am with a summary of last week's portfolio activity."
* "Send me a Friday recap of intro and other investor requests received this week."
* "Every weekday morning, give me an update on Acme AI."
Relay confirms the cadence, schedules the routine, and delivers on time. You can list, pause, or cancel active routines by asking ("what routines do I have?", "pause my Monday digest").
***
## Access and Privacy
**Members Only**: Only verified members of your workspace can chat with your Relay assistant. Phone numbers must be verified before messages are processed.
**One Workspace at a Time**: A given phone number can be active in one workspace at a time. If you belong to multiple workspaces, you can move Relay between them from the Messaging settings page.
**Per-Member Opt-In**: Each member chooses whether to enable Relay from **Settings** → **Messaging**. Members without a verified number cannot send or receive Relay messages.
**Workspace Scope**: Relay responses are scoped to the data you already have access to inside Concrete. Permissions and visibility rules apply identically to Relay and the app.
***
## Availability
Concrete Relay is available on both the Solo tier and on Firm plans. SMS delivery is currently US and Canada only.
# Changelog

Latest updates, new features, and improvements to the Concrete platform
## August 31, 2026
#### Touchpoints API
Pull a company's activity timeline into your own tools. The new `GET /companies/{companyPublicId}/touchpoints` endpoint lists a company's touchpoints newest first, each carrying its extracted insights with citations back to the source material.
* **Insights Included**: Every touchpoint returns its insights inline — category, content, and cited evidence with permalinks — the same citation shape tracker values use.
* **Topic and Category Filters**: Narrow the feed to board meetings or announcements with `topic`, or to insight categories like funding or growth with `category`.
* **Cursor Pagination**: Page through history with the same `pageToken` pattern as the rest of the API.
* **Change Tracking**: Every touchpoint carries an `updatedAt` timestamp, and `sort=updatedAt` orders the feed by when touchpoints last changed — handy for keeping a synced copy fresh.
## July 13, 2026
#### Remove Emails and Files
Take full control of what lives in your workspace. Remove a synced email or an uploaded file directly from its viewer, and Concrete unpublishes it everywhere — including any insights and timeline entries derived from it. Handy for the personal message that slipped past filtering or the deck filed against the wrong company.
#### Relay Improvements
A round of upgrades to make Relay a better daily companion.
* **Smarter Routines**: Scheduled digests now run on your local time and lead with what's new — recurring updates stay fresh instead of rehashing last week's news.
* **Richer Company Answers**: Ask what's been happening at a company and Relay can draw on its full recent activity and timeline.
* **Better Attachment Handling**: Sharing photos and files over text is smoother and more reliable across the board.
#### Platform Reliability
* **Self-Healing Email Connections**: Outlook connections now recover automatically from temporary provider hiccups — no reconnecting required.
* **Smarter Insight Routing**: Improved logic for matching portfolio insights to the right company, so updates land where they belong.
## June 18, 2026
#### Custom Tags
Organize your portfolio your way. Tag companies with your own labels — stage, board seat, watchlist, co-investor, whatever your process calls for — and put those tags to work across the app.
* **Create and Assign Inline**: A search-or-create tag picker lives on the company sidebar and directly in the Views grid, so labeling your portfolio never breaks your flow.
* **Color Coding**: Give each tag one of eight palette colors (or none) and recolor anytime. Tags render consistently everywhere they appear.
* **First-Class in Views**: Tags are a real column in Views — filter companies by tag, edit tags right in the grid, and group a view by tags to build stage- or status-style layouts of your portfolio.
## June 12, 2026
#### Trackers in the Public API
Read tracker definitions and per-company value history programmatically with new endpoints under `/api/v1/trackers`. Built for piping tracker data into your own database, BI tool, or LP reporting pipeline.
* **List and Inspect Trackers**: `GET /trackers` returns the trackers in your workspace, including each tracker's data type and value policy. Filter by `companyPublicId` to see the trackers running on a specific company.
* **Full Value History**: `GET /trackers/{trackerPublicId}/values` pages through values across your whole portfolio, with filters for company, review status, and effective date range.
* **Built for Nightly Sync**: Filter by `updatedAfter` and sort by `updatedAt` to fetch only what changed since your last run, including review-status changes like confirmations and rejections.
* **Self-Describing Values**: Every value carries its data type, as-reported period semantics (cadence, observation window, run-rate denomination), and citations with permalinks back to the source material in Concrete.
See the [API Reference](/api-reference) to try the new endpoints.
## June 11, 2026
#### Share Files Through Relay
Send files to Concrete straight from your phone. Paste a screenshot, deck, or other file into your Relay chat, mention which company it belongs to ("latest Acme AI board deck"), and Concrete files it to that company — indexed and available across your workspace like any other uploaded file.
## May 27, 2026
#### Introducing Concrete Relay
Chat with Concrete from your phone over SMS. Ask what's new across your portfolio, check in on a specific company, or jot a note after a founder call, all without opening the app.
* **A Dedicated Number Per Workspace**: Each workspace is assigned its own Concrete number. Save it as a contact (vCard download included) and text it like you would any teammate.
* **Ask Anything On the Way to a Meeting**: Request the link to a company's latest pitch deck, pull a founder's phone number, or grab the most recent ARR and runway figures before you walk into the room. Answers come back as a text with citations that link straight to the source email, file, or meeting inside Concrete.
* **Add Notes On the Go**: Capture a quick observation after a meeting or call and Concrete will file it against the right company.
* **Routines for Daily and Weekly Updates**: Tell Relay to text you a Monday morning portfolio digest, a Friday recap of any ARR, runway, or intro requests received that week, or a daily heads-up on any company you're watching closely. Concrete schedules the routine and delivers it on cadence.
* **Members Only**: Only verified members of your workspace can chat with your Relay assistant.
#### Concrete for Solo GPs and Small Teams
A new tier built for solo GPs, small teams (up to 3 seats), and investors who want to try Concrete with their own data before rolling it out more broadly. Sign up, connect your inbox, and start surfacing portfolio intelligence in minutes.
* **Sign Up and Go**: Create your workspace, add your first fund, and sync your inbox in a single guided flow. Concrete starts indexing immediately and backfills a year of historical communication so your portfolio is populated from day one.
* **Bring Your Own Stack**: Connect Gmail or Outlook, plug in Granola for meetings, and turn on the MCP server for your AI tools, all from Settings.
* **Concrete Relay Built In**: Text your workspace from your phone the moment setup completes.
* **Invite Your Team**: Send invites to up to two collaborators directly from the workspace. Larger firms can [talk to us](https://cal.com/will-thomsen) about going all-in.
## May 12, 2026
#### Organization-Wide Outlook Sync
Connect an entire Microsoft 365 tenant to Concrete and pull every inbox in the organization into a single unified email feed. This is designed for firms that want full email coverage across the team without requiring each member to connect individually.
Setup is split into two steps to accommodate organizations where the Concrete admin and the Microsoft 365 admin are different people: the Concrete admin creates a pending connection and receives a shareable link, which the Microsoft 365 admin opens to review and approve the organization-wide permissions.
This feature is available on request — reach out to Concrete to have it enabled for your workspace.
## May 6, 2026
#### Mobile-Friendly Citations
The citation viewer and inline source viewers — emails, files, meetings, moments, and notes — have been redesigned for phones and small screens. Open and read citations comfortably from anywhere, so you can stay on top of portfolio activity on the go.
## May 5, 2026
#### MCP Server (Early Preview)
Concrete's MCP server is in early preview — let your AI tools query your portfolio directly. Reach out to your account contact if you'd like access.
## April 30, 2026
#### Notes in the Public API
Manage notes programmatically with new endpoints under `/api/v1/notes` — list, create, read, update, and delete.
* **Markdown In and Out**: Note bodies use markdown for both request and response payloads, making it straightforward to script note workflows or sync content from external systems.
## April 24, 2026
#### Outlook Inbox Syncing
Outlook is now a supported email source — connect a Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com mailbox from **Settings** → **Connections** and Concrete will sync portfolio communications into your timeline.
## April 23, 2026
#### Views, Now the Default Experience
Views are now the primary way to browse your portfolio. Both portfolio-level and fund-level pages have been rebuilt around the Views grid, so grouping, sorting, and column controls are available everywhere.
* **Reworked Portfolio Page**: The portfolio overview now uses the Views grid by default — pick the columns and metrics that matter to you and persist them as a saved view.
* **Reworked Fund Pages**: Fund pages are rebuilt on the same Views foundation, replacing the previous card-and-table layout. Sortable, filterable, and groupable like any other view.
* **Default Views, Out of the Box**: New workspaces ship with curated default views so there's something useful to look at on day one.
* **Financial Health Score**: A new default tracker that distills a company's overall financial health into a single score, surfaced inline on default views.
* **Momentum Score**: A new default tracker that captures directional momentum across the business, also surfaced on default views.
* **Refined Metric Headers**: Cleaner column headers in the metric definition grid make scanning across companies easier.
## April 15, 2026
#### Smart Meeting Sync
The Granola integration now offers two matching modes so you can control how meetings get associated to portfolio companies.
* **Smart Match**: Concrete analyzes meeting content — titles, notes, and transcripts — to identify which portfolio company a meeting is about, even when no participant email matches a known domain. Ideal for ad hoc meetings or when the meeting isn't synced to your calendar in Granola.
* **Strict Match**: Only syncs meetings where a participant's email domain directly matches a portfolio company. A more conservative option for firms that prefer explicit signal over inference.
Switch between modes anytime from **Settings** → **Meetings**.
## April 15, 2026
#### Citation Viewer
Open any source citation in a dedicated viewer to read the full content and context behind an insight — without leaving your current workflow.
* **Deep Links**: Every citation now has a permanent link you can copy and share. Use it to link directly to Concrete source material from external applications, dashboards, and documents.
## April 8, 2026
#### Source Linking on Touchpoint Cards
Citations and sources are now surfaced directly on touchpoint cards — no need to open a full detail view to see what's behind an insight.
* **Inline Source Badges**: Hover over any touchpoint card to see its sources displayed inline. Emails from the same thread are grouped into a single timeline entry rather than repeated.
## March 31, 2026
#### Granola Integration
Connect Granola directly to Concrete to automatically sync meeting notes into your portfolio workspace — no Zapier required.
* **Personal or Enterprise API Key**: Add a Personal API key to sync notes you own and notes shared directly with you. Add a Granola Enterprise API key to also access your Team Space (Workspace) folders.
* **Portfolio-Focused Sync**: Only meetings with participants matched to portfolio companies are synced, keeping your workspace focused on what matters.
* **Manage from Settings**: Connect, pause, resume, or disconnect the integration at any time from **Settings** → **Meetings**.
## March 27, 2026
#### Dedicated Notes Tab and Improved Editor
Company pages now have a dedicated Notes tab for managing all the notes you've added to Concrete.
* **Notes Tab on Company Pages**: View, create, and manage all notes for a company in one place. The tab displays a live count so you can see at a glance how much context you've captured.
* **Improved Editor UI**: The rich text editor has been polished throughout — cleaner toolbar, better formatting controls, and a more refined note viewing and editing experience.
* **Unified Creation Menu**: A single `+ New` split button lives at the top of every company tab. The primary action is always contextual — `New Note` on the Notes tab, `New Meeting` on the Meetings tab — while the dropdown gives you access to any content type from anywhere.
## March 18, 2026
#### Automated Owner Assignment
Concrete now automatically infers and assigns an owner to each portfolio company based on communication history and member activity — making it possible to surface the right information to the right person, not just firm-wide.
* **Hyper-Relevant Signal**: Knowing who owns what is foundational to delivering individual-level intelligence. Owner assignment is what enables Concrete to route insights, alerts, and updates to the people who need them most.
* **Manual Assignments Always Win**: Any owner set manually is never overridden by the automated system.
#### Chat Improvements
* **New Retrieval Engine**: Significant latency and accuracy improvements, powered by a new hybrid search and retrieval system.
* **Richer Responses**: Chat now renders a wider range of structured content like styled tables to make complex answers easier to read at a glance.
## March 11, 2026
#### Tracker Search
Trackers now appear in search results, offering fast, at a glance access to metrics and topics across your portfolio.
## February 23, 2026
#### Trackers
Track any metric or topic across your portfolio. Describe what you want to monitor in plain language and Concrete generates the tracker configuration for you. From there, values are automatically surfaced from emails, files, and meeting transcripts as they arrive.
* **Flexible by Design**: Track numbers like ARR or free-form text like investor requests. Go specific with a dedicated ARR tracker or broad with a general revenue tracker. The right level of detail is up to you.
* **AI Extraction with Citations**: Every suggested value links directly back to the source — the exact email, file, or meeting it came from, and the passage the AI used to identify it.
* **Full Audit Trail**: Values are marked as suggested, approved, submitted, or rejected so your team always knows what's been verified and what's still pending review.
* **Scope and Visibility Controls**: Apply a tracker across your entire portfolio or a targeted subset. Keep it private or share it with your team.
* **Gets Smarter Over Time**: Rejecting an incorrect value isn't just cleanup — it feeds back into the extraction agent, improving accuracy for future runs.
* **Instant Historical Backfill**: The moment you publish, Concrete scans all existing content and populates historical values automatically.
* **Ready Out of the Box**: New workspaces come with popular trackers like Cash Balance, Runway, and Investor Requests already configured.
## December 19, 2025
#### Team Management
* **Member Suspension**: Preserve institutional knowledge when team members depart. Suspend members to remove workspace access while keeping all their contributions—emails, notes, and touchpoints—intact in your portfolio timeline. Easily reinstate suspended members if they return.
#### Chat Improvements
* **Redesigned Source Display**: Chat sources now appear in a streamlined horizontal list with intelligent labeling.
## December 15, 2025

# Concepts
Source: https://docs.concretehq.com/concepts
Core concepts and features that make up the Concrete platform
## Overview
Understanding Concrete's core concepts will help you get the most out of the platform. These key features work together to transform your communications into organized portfolio intelligence.
***
## Trackers
**Trackers** let you monitor the metrics that matter most across your portfolio — from ARR to cash balance to investor asks, all in one place. Concrete automatically extracts tracker values from your emails, files, and meetings as new data flows in.
* **Time-series**: Each tracker captures a history of values so you can see how a company is trending over time
* **AI-powered extraction**: Values are automatically pulled from board updates, financial reports, and investor emails
* **Flexible types**: Track numbers, money amounts, percentages, free-form text, or boolean states
* **Scoped access**: Control which companies each tracker applies to and who on your team can see it
When you join Concrete, default trackers for Cash Balance, Runway, and Investor Requests are set up automatically. You can create your own from plain-language descriptions using AI.
See the [Trackers section](/trackers/overview) for a full guide including tracker types, permissions, and advanced value policy configuration.
***
## Touchpoints
**Touchpoints** are how Concrete organizes portfolio company communications into meaningful, categorized events. Instead of scattered emails and documents, touchpoints group related communications by topic, time, and company.
### How Touchpoints Work
* **Automatic Creation**: AI analyzes email content and groups related messages
* **Smart Threading**: Connects discussions about the same topic across different email threads
* **Company Context**: Links all communications to the relevant portfolio company
* **Time-based Clustering**: Organizes contextually similar communications around the same time period
* **Multimodal**: Touchpoints are comprised of emails, meetings, notes, files and more. Viewing a touchpoint displays all of the sources that contributed to it.
***
## Digests
**Digests** are AI-generated summaries that provide high-level insights across your portfolio or for specific companies. They compile key information from touchpoints, emails, meetings, and files.
Concrete's Portfolio Pulse presents a list of recently updated digests across your portfolio.
***
## Insights
**Insights** are automatically extracted key developments from across your portfolio communications. Unlike digests which summarize collections of content, insights surface individual notable events and updates that matter to investors.
### How Insights Work
* **Automatic Extraction**: AI analyzes emails, meetings, and files to identify significant developments
* **Intelligent Categorization**: Every insight is classified into investor-relevant categories
* **Citation Tracking**: Each insight links directly to the source material for context
* **Filterable Feed**: Focus on specific types of updates across your entire portfolio or within individual companies
### Insight Categories
Insights are organized into three main groups:
**Performance & Capital**
* Growth metrics and traction updates
* Financial health indicators
* Funding rounds and capital events
* Exit opportunities and M\&A activity
**Execution**
* Product launches and feature releases
* Go-to-market strategy and expansion
* Marketing campaigns and initiatives
**Organizational Health**
* Team changes and key hires
* Operational improvements
* Governance and compliance updates
Use the insights feed on your homepage or fund pages to quickly scan what's happening across your portfolio. Filter by category to focus on specific areas like growth metrics or product updates.
***
## Companies
**Companies** represent your portfolio investments. Each company profile serves as a central hub for all related communications, touchpoints, meetings, files, and people.
Concrete tracks companies beyond those in your portfolio. Many times these records are automatically created based on email analysis. Still, only emails originating from companies inside of your portfolio are automatically tracked.
***
## Emails
**Email processing** transforms your Gmail inbox into intelligent portfolio insights by automatically analyzing, categorizing, and extracting key information from your communications.
### How Email Processing Works
* **Focused Scope**: Only portfolio company emails are analyzed. Concrete further filters to only show the most relevant communications.
* **Real-time Monitoring**: New emails continually monitored and processed
* **Touchpoint routing**: Intelligently groups related content across multiple threads and sources
* **Crawling**: Depending on your preferences, Concrete indexes content behind important links within emails
### Security & Privacy
* **Read-only Access**: Never sends or modifies your emails
* **Encryption**: All data encrypted in transit and at rest
* **Access Controls**: Team-based permissions
Use Concrete's **email forwarding** to pick up any email you want to analyze or crawl, regardless of whether it originates from a portfolio company.
***
## Meetings
**Meeting intelligence** processes meeting content to extract insights and create organized touchpoints alongside your email communications.
### Meeting Intelligence
* **Smart Categorization**: Meetings are automatically classified into categories like board meetings, check-ins, or LP calls
* **Participant Recognition**: Automatically tags meeting participants and enables viewing all meetings with specific people or companies
* **Company Recognition**: Automatically tags companies whether they're the main topic or mentioned in conversation
* **Content Processing**: Meeting content is indexed for use by Concrete's AI agents
* **Touchpoint Integration**: Meetings are grouped with related emails and documents into coherent touchpoints
### Logging Meetings
* **Manual Submission**: Log meetings directly through the Concrete app interface from any company or person page
* **API Integration**: Use Concrete's API to sync meeting content at scale for automated workflows
* **Content Support**: Upload meeting notes, transcripts, and key details for automatic processing and categorization
***
## Files
**File processing** automatically handles most file types from your portfolio companies, extracting key information and making everything searchable through intelligent categorization and indexing.
### Supported File Types
Concrete supports most common file formats including:
* **Documents**: PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Workspace files
* **Images**: PNG, JPG, and other image formats
### File Sources
* **Email Attachments**: Automatically processed from emails
* **Email Crawling**: Files discovered and indexed from links within emails
* **Direct Upload**: Manual upload through the Concrete UI
### AI Processing
* **Content Indexing**: Full content extraction and indexing for searchability
* **Intelligent Categorization**: Automatic topic classification and entity recognition
* **Search & Discovery**: Full-text and semantic search capabilities
***
## How It All Works Together
These concepts are interconnected to provide comprehensive portfolio intelligence:
1. **Emails** are processed and organized into **Touchpoints**
2. **Files** attached to emails are categorized and linked to **Companies**
3. **Meetings** generate documentation that becomes **Touchpoints**
4. **Insights** extract key developments from emails, meetings, and files, surfacing notable events across your portfolio
5. **Digests** summarize information across all **Touchpoints**, **Companies**, and activities
6. **Trackers** automatically extract and record key metrics from all of the above, building a time-series history for every portfolio company
7. Everything is searchable and accessible through company profiles, timeline views, and filterable feeds
This integrated approach ensures that no important portfolio information gets lost and that you always have the context you need for effective portfolio management.
# Advanced Crawling
Source: https://docs.concretehq.com/email-intelligence/advanced-crawling
How Concrete extracts and indexes content from links within your portfolio communications
## Overview
Advanced crawling automatically extracts content from important links within your portfolio emails, ensuring that critical information isn't lost behind external platforms.
Advanced crawling can be enabled or disabled per email connection in your **Settings** → **Email Accounts**.
***
## Supported Integrations
### DocSend
When enabled, Concrete indexes DocSend content using the inbox's email address.
**How it works:**
* Detects DocSend links within portfolio emails
* Uses the recipient's email address to access permitted content
* Indexes the full document content for search and AI analysis
**Limitations:**
* Will not attempt to enter passcodes or complete email verification flows
* Only accesses content that the inbox has permission to view
* Cannot bypass additional authentication requirements
* Refuses to index content unless deemed intended for the inbox owner
DocSend indexing can be toggled on or off individually for each email connection in **Settings** → **Email Accounts**.
### Loom
Concrete extracts publicly available Loom videos shared in emails.
**How it works:**
* Identifies Loom video links in emails
* Downloads and indexes publicly accessible videos and their transcripts
**Limitations:**
* Will not authenticate into Loom accounts
* Will not access password-protected or private videos
### Google Docs
Concrete downloads and indexes content from Google Workspace files shared via link.
**Supported file types:**
* Google Docs (text documents)
* Google Sheets (spreadsheets)
* Google Drive files (various formats)
**Limitations:**
* Only accesses files set to "anyone with the link" sharing
* File owner must allow downloading
* Cannot access files requiring sign-in or additional permissions
### All Other Links
For websites and platforms not covered by dedicated integrations, Concrete uses screenshots to capture content.
**How it works:**
* Takes high-resolution screenshot of linked page
* Extracts content from image if deemed useful
**Best for:**
* News articles and blog posts
* Company websites and landing pages
***
## Managing Crawling Settings

Transform your inbox into organized portfolio intelligence
Concrete's email intelligence transforms your inbox into a powerful portfolio management system. By analyzing your communications with read-only access, Concrete automatically organizes, categorizes, and extracts insights from your portfolio company emails.
Concrete only processes emails from portfolio companies.
***
## Benefits
**Focused Scope**: Only portfolio company emails are synced. Concrete further filters to only show the most relevant communications.
**Smart Categorization**: Emails are automatically classified into categories such as company updates, board communications, fundraising materials, or operational content.
**Attachment Processing**: All files are indexed and searchable. Files are individually categorized into topics like board materials, financial models, and pitch decks.
**Link Crawling**: Content behind important links is extracted and analyzed. [Learn more →](/email-intelligence/advanced-crawling)
**People Tracking**: Automatically tags employees and external stakeholders.
**Touchpoint Grouping**: Related emails are grouped into coherent touchpoints spanning multiple email threads, files, meeting transcripts and notes.
***
## Getting Started
From **Settings** → **Email Accounts**, select an integration to connect your inbox
Choose how much access your team should have
Concrete begins analyzing your portfolio communications immediately.
***
## Integrations
### Google Workspace
Connect your Google Workspace (Gmail) account to Concrete. The integration is read-only, so Concrete never sends, modifies, or deletes your emails.
### Outlook (Individual Inbox)
Connect your individual Microsoft Outlook account to Concrete. The integration is read-only — Concrete never sends, modifies, or deletes your emails.
### Outlook (All Inboxes)
For teams that want to centralize email intelligence across an entire Microsoft 365 tenant, Concrete supports a tenant-wide Outlook connection that pulls messages from every inbox in the organization into a single Concrete user.
**Requirements**: This connection type must be manually enabled for your workspace. Contact Concrete to request access.
**Two-step connection process**: The Concrete admin who initiates the connection may not be the same person as the Microsoft 365 admin who can grant organization-wide permissions. To handle this, setup is split into two steps:
1. **Concrete admin** creates a pending connection in **Settings** → **Email Accounts** and receives a shareable link.
2. **Microsoft 365 admin** opens that link, reviews the requested permissions, and approves — which finalizes the connection and begins syncing all tenant inboxes.
### Email Forwarding
Forward any email to Concrete for guaranteed processing
**How it works:**
* Find your workspace's unique forwarding email address in **Settings** → **Email Accounts**.
* Forward relevant emails to this address.
* Concrete will process and tag the forwarded content **regardless of whether or not the sender is a portfolio company**.
Email forwarding is a great way to let Concrete analyze and crawl one-off emails from non-portfolio companies.
# Team Permissions
Source: https://docs.concretehq.com/email-intelligence/team-permissions
Control how portfolio communications are shared with your team through intelligent permission levels
## Overview
Concrete's permission system gives you control over how your data is shared with your team. Concrete offers three permission levels that balance transparency with privacy.
Concrete limits which emails are processed and shared with your team. Content-rich emails follow these permissions. All other emails are totally invisible to your team.
## Permission Levels
### Metadata
**Team sees AI-generated content, subject, dates and participants.**
Team members cannot:
* Directly view email content
* Download or access attachments
Team members can:
* View AI-generated content derived from the entire context of the email
### Attachments
**Team sees metadata, content from followed links and may download attachments.**
Team members cannot:
* Directly view email body
Team members can:
* View AI-generated content derived from the entire context of the email
* Download email attachments
* View content extracted from email crawling
### Full
**Team may view emails and download attachments.**
Full access provides complete transparency:
* Direct access to email bodies

***
## How AI Works with Permissions
Behind the scenes Concrete's systems always analyze the full email content, attachments, and crawled content to provide accurate, comprehensive answers.
Your permission settings control what humans see directly, while AI processing ensures everyone gets safe and accurate intelligence.
### Example in Practice
When a team member with metadata-level access asks "What were the key metrics in last month's board update?":
1. **AI Processing**: Analyzes the complete board email, attachments, and any linked documents
2. **Response Generation**: Creates a comprehensive answer based on full context
3. **Permission Filtering**: Delivers the insight without exposing the original email content
4. **Result**: Team member gets accurate, actionable intelligence while respecting privacy boundaries
***
## Setting Team Permissions
### For Email Connections
1. Go to **Settings** → **Email Accounts**
2. Find your connected email account
3. Click the permission dropdown under **Sharing Level**
4. Select your preferred level: Metadata, Attachments, or Full

# Bulk Import Companies
Source: https://docs.concretehq.com/guides/bulk-import-companies
Import multiple portfolio companies at once using a CSV file
## Overview
Save time by importing multiple companies into your fund at once using Concrete's bulk import feature. Upload a CSV file with your company list and Concrete will handle the rest, including duplicate detection and data validation.
Advanced users may use Concrete's API to continuously sync portfolio companies from another system.
***
* **Required columns**: Your CSV should include company names and domains where available.
Include historical domains in a separate column that maps to Concrete's **additional domains** field. This is common for companies that rebranded or changed domains. It helps Concrete identify all relevant history.
From your fund page, click the import icon in the top right corner to begin the bulk import process.
Select your CSV file containing the list of companies and their websites. The file should include at minimum:
* **Company names**
* **Domain/website URLs**
Map the columns in your CSV file to Concrete's company fields. Name and domain are required fields that must be mapped for a successful import.
**Required Fields:**
* **Name**: Company name (maps to your "Company" or "Name" column)
* **Domain**: Company website domain (maps to your "Website", "Domain", or "URL" column)
Review your import list, which automatically accounts for duplicates and validates the data. Make any final adjustments before submitting.
Click **Import** once you're satisfied with the preview.
***
## Troubleshooting
* If you're having trouble with the import, do not hesitate to [contact us](mailto:support@concretehq.com). We're happy to import the list on your behalf.
***
## After Import
Once your import is complete:
1. **Review imported companies** on your fund page
2. **Update company details** as needed
3. **Start tracking communications** - Concrete will begin processing relevant emails immediately
Your newly imported companies will start appearing in touchpoints and communications as Concrete processes your email history.
# Create a Custom Tracker
Source: https://docs.concretehq.com/guides/create-custom-tracker
Create a custom tracker to monitor any metric across your portfolio
## Overview
Trackers let you define any metric you want to follow across your portfolio companies. Concrete uses AI to generate the tracker configuration from a plain-language description, then automatically extracts values from emails, files, and meeting content as it arrives.
Creating a tracker takes three steps: describe and configure scope, refine the generated configuration, then preview extracted values before publishing.
***
## Steps
Navigate to [Trackers](https://app.concretehq.com/trackers) and click **New Tracker** to open the setup dialog.
Enter a plain-language description of what you want to track.
**Examples:**
* *ARR*
* *Months of runway*
* *Is the company fundraising?*
* *Key risks the founder flagged this month*
Then pick which companies use this tracker, who can see it, and select a company to use for a test run.
Click **Generate** when ready. Concrete will take up to a minute to generate the tracker configuration.
Review the generated configuration. Modify the instructions field to refine examples, add edge cases, or specify formatting rules.
Click **Run Preview** to extract values from your preview company.
Concrete runs an extraction against your preview company and shows the results as a timeline of values.
* If values look correct, click **Publish** to activate the tracker
* If something looks off, click **Refine** to go back and adjust the instructions or value policy, then rerun the preview
Once published, Concrete immediately begins scanning all existing content across the scoped companies to backfill historical values.
***
## After Publishing
Once your tracker is live:
* **Review suggested values** on each company's tracker panel and approve or reject them
* **Enter values manually** for any companies that don't have source content yet
* **Adjust scope or visibility** at any time from the tracker's **Settings** panel
* **Refine the extraction instructions** from Settings if the tracker is missing values or picking up false positives
See [Audit Trail](/trackers/audit-trail) to understand how suggested, approved, and submitted values work.

## Best Practices
**Start with Notes Only**: Most teams find this level provides good strategic context while protecting sensitive discussions.
# Our Philosophy
Source: https://docs.concretehq.com/philosophy
In the era of large language models, the quality of your insights is only as good as the data you feed them. While the world rushes to build AI agents on top of messy, unfiltered information streams, we take a different approach: **thoughtful intelligence over information overload**.
## Curation, Not Indiscriminate Capture
For portfolio monitoring, traditional CRMs fail because they force an impossible choice: share everything with your team (creating privacy concerns and information overload) or share nothing (killing transparency and collaboration). Access requests and filters are a weak solve, invariably siloing critical information.
Concrete **intelligently identifies what should be shared** and what should remain private. Investor updates become team knowledge. Sensitive negotiations stay confidential. Operational updates reach the right stakeholders. This isn't just automation. It's intelligence in service of better teamwork.
## Context Over Chaos
With Concrete, a board meeting isn't twelve scattered emails, a Google Doc, and a calendar invite. It's **a single, coherent touchpoint** bringing together every relevant piece of information. We don't just organize your communications. We construct the full picture, connecting the dots between emails, documents, meetings, and conversations.
## Quality Over Quantity
Most tools try to capture everything. **We capture what matters.** Every email, every document, every communication that enters Concrete is carefully analyzed and thoughtfully curated. We don't just sync your inbox. **We understand it.** Our AI doesn't just read your emails. It comprehends the context, extracts the essence, and surfaces the signal through the noise.
Where most inbox syncing tools stop, we begin. What good is capturing a portfolio company email when it's nothing more than a link to the actual content? When important insights are buried behind **DocSend** links, hidden in **Loom** videos, or scattered across **Google Docs**, we find them. We index deeply, crawl intelligently, and surface comprehensively. **No critical information gets lost in the shuffle.**
## The Concrete Difference
We believe venture capital deserves better than retrofitted sales tools or glorified email organizers. Portfolio management requires purpose-built intelligence that understands the nuanced rhythms of investor-founder relationships, the critical importance of board communications, and the collaborative nature of great investment teams.
This is why we are building Concrete: to transform the overwhelming flood of venture knowledge into the precise, actionable intelligence that drives better investment decisions.

# Audit Trail
Source: https://docs.concretehq.com/trackers/audit-trail
See where every tracker value came from and whether it's been verified
Every tracker value carries a record of where it came from, how it was extracted, and whether it has been reviewed. This makes it easy to see at a glance what's been verified by your team versus what's waiting for a second look.
***
## Statuses
○ **Suggested**
Extracted automatically by Concrete's AI after scanning emails, files, or meeting content. The value hasn't been reviewed yet and is surfaced for your team to accept or dismiss.
● **Approved**
An AI-suggested value that a team member reviewed and confirmed. Citations from the original extraction are preserved so the source is always traceable.
● **Submitted**
A value entered directly by a team member. Member-submitted values are confirmed immediately with no review step required.
● **Rejected**
A team member reviewed an AI-suggested value and dismissed it. This happens when the AI misread a figure or pulled the wrong number from context. Rejected values are hidden from the timeline but remain in the record, and they help the tracker improve its extraction accuracy for future runs.
***
## Citations and Evidence
When Concrete extracts a value automatically, it doesn't just record the number. It captures the source material behind it. Each AI-extracted value includes:
* **Citations**: direct links back to the email, file, or meeting the value was pulled from
* **Quoted evidence**: the specific passage or excerpt the AI used to identify the value, so you can read it in context
This means you can always trace a value back to its origin: click through to see the exact line in a board deck or investor update where the figure appeared. For approved values, citations remain attached so the audit trail is preserved even after review.
***
## Why It Matters
Status indicators let you quickly assess the reliability of what you're looking at across your entire portfolio. This is especially useful on the global Trackers view where you're scanning values from many companies at once. Keeping suggested values reviewed and rejecting incorrect ones also makes the system smarter over time.
# Overview
Source: https://docs.concretehq.com/trackers/overview
Track key metrics across your portfolio companies over time
[Trackers](https://app.concretehq.com/trackers) let you define the metrics that matter to your fund — things like ARR, cash balance, runway, or investor asks, and monitor them across your entire portfolio as companies send updates.
Concrete automatically extracts tracker values from emails, files, and meeting transcripts as they arrive. You can also enter or adjust values manually at any time.
View and manage your trackers in the Concrete app
Trackers are flexible by design. Track ARR specifically, or keep it broad with a general revenue tracker. Use a dedicated monthly burn tracker, or a text-based financial health tracker that captures whatever founders share. The right level of specificity depends on your team's needs.
***
## Default Trackers
When you join Concrete, three trackers are set up for you automatically:
* **Cash Balance**: total cash and cash equivalents held by a company at a point in time
* **Runway**: how many months of operating runway a company has remaining
* **Investor Requests**: a collected list of asks and introductions founders are seeking from their investors
These defaults cover the most commonly tracked metrics across venture portfolios and are ready to use immediately. You can customize them or add your own.
***
## Creating a Tracker
Trackers are created with the help of AI. You describe what you want to track in plain language and Concrete generates the tracker configuration for you.
From the **Trackers** tab, click **New Tracker** and describe what you want to track, for example, *"monthly ARR"* or *"headcount by quarter"*.
Concrete generates a tracker with a name, type, and extraction instructions. Review the preview and refine any details before saving.
Choose which companies the tracker applies to and who on your team can see it.
Publish the tracker to begin collecting values. Concrete will backfill values from existing content automatically.
***
## Tracking Values Over Time
Every tracker maintains a history of values for each portfolio company. As new emails, board decks, and investor updates arrive, Concrete's extraction agent scans the content and adds new values to the timeline automatically.
You can also:
* **Enter values manually** from the company's tracker panel
* **Edit or override** an extracted value if needed
* **View the full timeline** to see how a metric has trended over time
Trackers are most powerful when you have regular investor updates flowing through Concrete. The more content Concrete processes, the more values it can extract automatically.
***
## Visibility and Scope
When creating a tracker, you control who can see it (**Team** or **Private**) and which companies it applies to (**All**, **All with exclusions**, or **Selected**). See the [Reference →](/trackers/reference) for full details on all options.
***
## Audit Trail
Every tracker value has a status so you can tell at a glance what's been verified and what came from where:
* ○ **Suggested**: extracted by AI, pending review
* ● **Approved**: AI suggestion confirmed by a team member
* ● **Submitted**: entered directly by a team member
* ● **Rejected**: AI-extracted but dismissed after review
AI-extracted values also include citations and quoted evidence linking back to the source. See [Audit Trail →](/trackers/audit-trail) for more detail.

Visibility controls who on your team can see the tracker and all the values it collects.
**Team**
The tracker is visible to every member of your workspace. This is the default for shared metrics like ARR, headcount, or cash balance that the whole team benefits from seeing.
**Private**
Only you can see this tracker and its values. Use private trackers when you're experimenting with a new metric or tracking something that shouldn't be surfaced team-wide.
***
## Scope
Scope determines which portfolio companies a tracker is active for.
**All Companies**
The tracker applies to every company in your portfolio. Any new companies added are automatically included.
**All Companies with Exclusions**
The tracker applies to all portfolio companies except specific ones you choose to exclude. Useful when you want broad coverage but need to carve out a few companies. For example, if a company uses a different reporting format or you track that metric differently for them.
**Selected Companies**
This tracker applies only to the companies you select. Use it for metrics that matter to a specific segment of your portfolio, such as GMV for marketplaces or clinical milestones for biotech investments. You might even track a KPI specific to a single company.
You can update visibility and scope at any time from the tracker's **Settings** panel. Changes take effect immediately and do not affect historical values already collected.

## Value Policy
The **value policy** is an advanced field submitted as a JSON object that controls how values are recorded.
Value policies are automatically generated when setting up a tracker. This is advanced documentation to customize the suggested behavior.
Value policies only apply to numeric tracker types: **Money**, **Number**, and **Percent**. **Boolean** and **Text** trackers do not use value policies.
Numeric trackers in Concrete fall into one of two measurement paradigms. The `kind` field on the value policy selects the paradigm and determines which other fields are available.

### Point in Time Value Policy
A snapshot value as of a specific date, for example cash balance as of Dec 31 or runway as of Q3 end. The value doesn't accumulate. It represents what was true at a moment in time.
All fields below are optional. Omit any that don't apply to the tracker.
Selects the point-in-time paradigm.
An intrinsic lookback window baked into the metric definition. Use this when the metric is defined by the window it covers, for example Weekly Active Users always looks back 7 days. If omitted, the metric is treated as a pure snapshot with no lookback.
The permitted observation windows. Set to `null` to allow any window. Provide an array to restrict to specific options.
The time unit of the window.
The number of units. Must be ≥ 1.
The default window pre-selected in the UI when entering a value. Must be one of the items in `allowed` when `allowed` is an array.
The period the underlying data came from, even though the metric itself is a snapshot. Use this when the value is derived from a specific period's data. For example, gross margin is a point-in-time snapshot but comes from a quarter's financials.
The permitted underlying cadences. Set to `null` to allow any. Provide an array to restrict to specific options.
The time unit of the cadence.
The number of units. Must be ≥ 1.
The default cadence pre-selected in the UI. Must be one of the items in `allowed` when `allowed` is an array.
Applies to run-rate metrics expressed on a per-period basis, for example ARR (annualized) vs MRR (monthly). It sets which denominator is valid when entering a value.
The permitted denominations. Set to `null` to allow any. Provide an array to restrict to specific options.
The default denomination pre-selected in the UI. Must be one of the items in `allowed` when `allowed` is an array.
#### Examples
**No policy**: a simple snapshot like runway with no constraints:
```json theme={null}
{ "kind": "point_in_time" }
```
**Quarterly provenance**: gross margin, derived from quarterly financials:
```json theme={null}
{
"kind": "point_in_time",
"underlyingCadence": {
"allowed": [
{ "unit": "quarter", "length": 1 },
{ "unit": "year", "length": 1 }
],
"preferred": { "unit": "quarter", "length": 1 }
}
}
```
**ARR**: annualized run-rate revenue, locked to a yearly denomination:
```json theme={null}
{
"kind": "point_in_time",
"denomination": {
"allowed": ["year"]
}
}
```

### Period Total Value Policy
A value that accumulated over a defined time bucket. For example, ARR for Q2 or revenue for FY2025. The value only makes sense in the context of a specific period.
Selects the period-total paradigm.
The accumulation bucket that values are reported in. When entering a value, the reporter selects which bucket it belongs to (e.g. Q1 2025 or FY2025).
The permitted cadences. Set to `null` to allow any. Provide an array to restrict to specific options.
The time unit of the cadence.
The number of units. Must be ≥ 1.
The default cadence pre-selected in the UI. Must be one of the items in `allowed` when `allowed` is an array.
#### Examples
**Quarterly or annual**: revenue tracker defaulting to quarterly:
```json theme={null}
{
"kind": "period_total",
"cadence": {
"allowed": [
{ "unit": "quarter", "length": 1 },
{ "unit": "year", "length": 1 }
],
"preferred": { "unit": "quarter", "length": 1 }
}
}
```
**Flexible cadence**: any cadence acceptable:
```json theme={null}
{
"kind": "period_total",
"cadence": { "allowed": null }
}
```
